Late Edo period, 19th century, dark stained wooden box with visible wood grain, dark metal bands on edges an across sides, metal ring handle at top, with key hole, created as a secure chest to be taken on sea voyages.

Some losses to paint on edges; top left corner of door has some loss to wood; one of fittings for top handle has been lost, handle remains with box but loose; general wear to metal fittings from use and age; key does not appear to unlock door.
