Joe Lafone was inspired to enter the art world after seeing the movie, Lust for Life, documenting the life of Vincent Van Gogh. Born in Hickory, North Carolina, Lafone has lived and worked throughout the United States - from the Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, to Greenwich Village in New York. He returned to North Carolina and began painting in 1997, after God spoke to him in a dream.

Joe Lafone's paintings have been exhibited at the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum and the Hickory Museum of Art.
