Patinated bronze, mounted on a green elliptical marble base, signed "Injalbert" to lower right side of plinth column seat, also with foundry stamp for "Siot-Decauville, Paris" to posterior upper plinth edge.

From the Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Smith, Salisbury, North Carolina J. A. Injalbert was a pupil of Augustin-Alexandre Dumont. Among his awards are the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1874 and the Grand Prix at the Exposition Universelle of 1889 (and in 1900 was a member of the jury). Injalbert was made an officer of the Légion d'honneur on the day of the inauguration of the Pont Mirabeau in Paris; and in 1905, he was made a member of the Institut de France; and in 1910 promoted to Commander of the Légion d'honneur. He was also an influential arts instructor at the Académie Colarossi and the École des Beaux Arts.
