By direct descent through the sitter's sister's family, Phoebe Dozier Littlejohn (1820-1852).

Patrick Henry Dozier was born in Camden, North Carolina on October 18, 1823, the son of Joseph Dozier (Dauge) and Lydia Lamb. Never married, Dozier is listed twice in the 1850 federal census. On July 24, 1850, he is listed in Camden, North Carolina as a doctor and residing in the home of his sister and her husband, Henry Clark Hardy and Huldah Etheridge Dozier Hardy. On October 18, 1850, he is listed as a dentist and residing at the City Hotel in Norfolk, Virginia. Patrick Henry Dozier died on January 3, 1861 and is buried by his father in the Ferebee-Dozier Cemetery in Camden County, North Carolina.
