Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Columbus "Commie" Roosevelt White (1901-1975) was born on the Currituck Inlet Club property. After his father's death, he helped his mother operate the hunting lodge from 1914 to 1925. He then took over the management of the property. This decoy comes with impeccable provenance. A.B. Midgett, a milk man from Virginia Beach, hunted frequently with Commie White and acquired this decoy from Commie in 1948. A.B Midgett traded the swan to Roy White in 1955 for twenty yellowlegs carvings. The consignor purchased this swan from Roy White in 2005. This decoy is hollow and has an early iron ballast weight. It is in a swimming position and exhibits exceptional form.
