Mid-20th century, 39-3/4 in. octagonal barrel with two fixed sights, top flat with inlaid gilt plate engraved "Hacker Martin * Made For * Dr. Samuel Bickley" with "HACKER MARTIN" in small letters stamped on the lockplate below the hammer; the figured maple stock fitted with a set trigger action; the brass furniture to include engraved sideplate, patchbox, triggerguard, buttplate, ramrod pipes, and nose cap; the stock hosts ten silver and brass inlays; the lid of the patchbox appears fixed in place and is engraved with a vignette depicting a boy shooting a deer; fitted with wooden ramrod.

Private Collection, High Point, North Carolina Hacker Martin of Gray, Tennessee made a name for himself as an old school black powder gunsmith and grist mill operator in the Johnson City area. In the early 1950s, a milling opportunity took him to Appomattox, Virginia where he also continued to make flintlock and percussion longrifles. This particular gun was made for the late Dr. Samuel Bickley, who could call both Tennessee and North Carolina "home."
