Oil on panel, signed at lower right, circa 1948, retains several exhibition and gallery labels to the verso, inscribed by the artist on the verso, presented in a period distressed frame.

Roger Bezombes studied in Paris, at the
École des Beaux-Arts. He worked in a variety of mediums and techniques, including sculpture, lithography, and medals, but was primarily a painter. Counting Henri Matisse and his friend, Maurice Denis, among his greatest influences, Bezombes' paintings are lyrical and riotous explosions of color.
