Oil on canvas, a scene reminiscent of the early 1900s, depicting an entire family participating in the weekly laundry chore, signed near the bottom, presented in a hardwood frame with linen liner.
DOA 24 x 30 in.
Born in Vance County, Williams' parents were sharecroppers and her memories of rural life populate her folk art paintings. In 2009 an exhibition of her paintings, entitled “Ruth Russell Williams: Master Storyteller," was displayed at the NCCU Art Museum in Durham, North Carolina.
A few scuffs to frame edges; some stains near top middle edge of canvas.
