Born in Greece in 1920, Ilias LaLaounis took over the family goldsmithing and watchmaking business in 1941. His love of history and Greek culture inspired him to use ancient designs and techniques, such as granulation, filigree, and hand hammering, to create modern jewelry. In the 1960s, he started his own company and became the first goldsmith to be honored by the Academie des Beaux Arts et des Lettres for his contribution to the art of jewelry design.
