Glenna Goodacre grew up in Lubbock, Texas and lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She graduated from Colorado College and later studied sculpture in Manhattan at the Art Students League. Working in clay or wax and casting in bronze, the human figure was her dedicated focus, with an emphasis realism and Native American peoples. Glenna was able to work both in small and large scale, creating important public commissions including: an 8 ft. portrait of President Ronald Reagan for the former president's presidential library in California; a large multi figure narrative memorial sculpture for the Irish Memorial at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia; Vietnam Women's Memorial installed in 1993 on the Mall in Washington, D.C.; the 1999 design for the Sacagawea dollar; among many others.
Glenna was the recipient of several awards nationally throughout her impressive five decades career, including the James Earl Fraser Sculpture Award at the Prix De West Exhibition; the Gold Medal For Career Achievement from The Portrait Society of America; Knickerkbocker Artists' Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement in American Art; and several other awards.
