John Austin (1891-1981), Corolla, North Carolina. This is a masterwork by perhaps the finest carver to come from the Currituck beaches. It is a hen bluebill with the iconic flat forehead. The John Austin blackheads are a little smaller than the redheads, but extremely well proportioned. They are also the rarest species he carved.
