Nierikas (yarn paintings) incorporate designs and symbols related to the myths, stories and everyday life of the Huichol people of Mexico. Specifically, the Nierika is a device allowing a Huichol person to communicate with the spirit world. Emilio de la Cruz Benitez is a well known artist, whose work is in the Brooklyn Museum and other prominent collections.
