Ocracoke, North Carolina, this exact decoy was obtained by Neal Conoley in 1985 as his compensation for appraising the Green Island Club decoy stand; Tom Beach obtained this stand from the Sam Jones Estate.

George is the oldest recognized carver from Ocracoke Island. As a teenager, he traveled in merchant ships to places like the West Indes and beyond as local jobs were very scare. He was later involved with the schooner freight business and market hunted during the winter months. George made a lot of decoys for the Green Island Club when it was being formed in the 1920's. He brant and geese decoys are exceptional and important.
