Winton Thompson (NC, 1917-2003), Bufflehead

Grandy, North Carolina, this well crafted dipper was probably made in the 1970's and it is branded with his name.

During World War II, Winton had the distinguished war time record of piloting the Higgins Amphibious Landing Craft in the invasion of northern Africa and Normandy. He was a gifted carpenter and started making decoys for the market in the 1960's.
