English, late 18th - early 19th century, mahogany veneers, lightwood string borders with a conforming eight-pointed star on each lid, the scalloped fronts each with a small brass lined keyhole (one key present), the hinged lids' interiors show an armorial rendering of a boar's head above a castle tower, below which is a perforated panel for cutlery storage.
Each 13-3/4 x 9 x 9-1/4 in.
Lids do not seat tightly; later hinges, brass hinges on each box do not match those on the other box; some scattered veneer cracks and repairs; armorial painting is later.
