Linwood Dudley (NC, 1886-1958), Canvasback

Knotts Island, North Carolina, this is a nice honest example of his work, nicely carved head on a neck shelf with drop down tail.

Length 16 in.

Linwood was elder son of Lem Dudley, Lee's twin brother. Linwood became manager of the Dudley Island Shooting Club around 1910 and also ran a market hunting operation. He carved larger decoys which showed up well on the open waters of Currituck Sound.

Old gunning paint with flaking to bare wood; tight crack in left side of the bill.
