.50-70 caliber, serial number 1974 on left of barrel at breech and on left of breechblock, 32-1/2 in. round barrel with two bands, walnut stock impressed with inspector cartouche ESA (E. S. Allin), Springfield lock dated 1864, breechblock marked 1870 / eagle head / crossed arrows / US; buttplate stamped A25, rear ladder sight and fixed front sight, with ramrod.
