Dalya Luttwak was born and raised in a left-wing northern Galilee kibbutz but was also influenced by her traditional grandparents, acquiring a life-long interest in religious texts and traditions as well as Jewish art.
She studied art history at Jerusalem's Hebrew University and subsequently metal smithing in the United States.
Since 1980 she has maintained a studio in Washington and was president of the Washington Guild of Goldsmiths from 1986 until 1988.
