Jamestown, North Carolina, circa 1860, curly maple half stock percussion long rifle, the top flat of its 40 in. octagonal barrel is signed W. LAMB & SONS, iron hammer and lock plate, having double-set triggers, cheek rest and stock inlays, silver false wedge inlays, wooden ramrod present.
Length 56 in.
William Lamb made this rifle with his sons Henry Clarkson Lamb and Jesse G Lamb. Henry Clarkson Lamb made rifles for the State of North Carolina during the War Between the States. A similar example is published on page 95 of
North Carolina Schools of Longrifles 1765-1865 by William W. Ivey.
Working action, some wood shrinkage, overall stable oxidation to ferrous elements, solid old patina to wood and brass.
