A Carved Stone Thai Buddha Head

Likely 19th century, the stone head is covered in a dark surface paint, eyes with high eyebrows and appear almost fully closed in meditation, serene mouth and narrow nose, with traditional Buddhist iconography of a an ushnisha topknot of wisdom and elongated ears from his former heavy princely earrings, the head is fitted into a wooden block base.

HOA 14 1/2 in.

A horizontal crack around the base of neck to reverse side; extensive loss over entire head of pigment; scattered surface losses and wear over entire head.
