19th century, round porcelain bowl with dome cover, very finely hand painted in imari
kinrande style with jewel color palette highlighted with gilt of elegant phoenixes to cover and dragons encircling the bowl, symbols of emperor and empress, all over pinkish purple cloud ground, underside signed with artist's name mark "Dai Nihon (Great Japan)" with artist.
8 1/4 in., 9 in. diameter
Private Collection, Durham, North Carolina Cover is secured to bottom with some type of wax adhesive; not examined open.
