Mid-19th century, the 2-3/8 in. octagonal .44 caliber barrel stamped DERINGER / PHILADELA on the top flat and again on the lockplate; engraved mounts are of German silver or iron; the walnut stock with checkered grip; the pistol's button-operated wooden case is sheathed in reptile skin; the interior is lined in green velvet and has compartments for the pistol, a bullet mold, a brass powder flask and a tin of English percussion caps.
