From the Collection of Susan and Michael Hershfield, Durham, NC, Proceeds to benefit the Dr. Ira and Joyce Wiggins Endowed Scholarship Fund in the NCCU Jazz Studies program. Ippy Patterson is a well-known artist and writer who grew up in New England, moved to the Atacama Desert in Chile with her parents, and now lives and practices in Hillsborough, North Carolina. After attending the Rhode Island School of Design and graduating from Brown University as a creative writing major, she wrote short stories and became an illustrator for books and newspapers, including the New York Times where she illustrated their garden column. Patterson is especially interested in the use of the line as a form of communication - both in her drawing and writing. Her artwork has been exhibited at a number of significant institutions and galleries, including the North Carolina Museum of Art, Cassilhaus, Frank Gallery, Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art, Craven Allen Gallery, and others.
