England, second quarter 19th century, brass, consisting of a the compound body, mounted atop a rackwork pillar with adjustable stage and reflecting mirror, both mounting atop a closed mahogany box, portable forms designed for field use and outfitted with various lenses, forceps, and bone sliders, unsigned.
Largest box 3 3/4 x 8 x 5 1/4 in.; smaller box 2 x 6 3/8 x 4 3/8 in.
Private Collection of an Antiquarian, Charlotte, North Carolina Smaller case with cracks to lid and without key, apparatus will mount to lid, some silver loss to smaller set's mirror; larger case with some looseness as hinges; larger microscope's mirror sits slight askew beneath stage. Some spotting to brass and handling wear on both instruments.
