From the Collection of Dr. and Mrs. Percy E. Jones, Greensboro, North Carolina Originally from Kentucky, Bill Pinkney enrolled at East Carolina University on a football scholarship and majored in Fine Art. Pinkney loved jazz and music in general. Many of his paintings explore the theme of music, and his brother said a jazz album was always playing while he painted. In 1987, he was commissioned by Duke University to paint a portrait of Julian Abele, the African American architect who was the primary designer of West Campus in Durham.
