Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Chincoteague, Virginia, circa 1920, carved and painted wood, tack eyes.
Length 17 in., Wing span 19 in.
This is the only known redhead flying decoy by Ira Hudson. His redheads are extremely rare and this decoy appears to have been made as a working bird and not a decorative. The wings are inletted into the body and the mounting hole is reinforced with a metal sleeve for the stake.
Original paint, age check in the body, earlier repair to the bill, feet appear to be later replacements.
