Attributed to eastern North or South Carolina, 19th century, 13 ft. long board set on two grey painted ladder form supports with through tenon joinery and tapered shoe form feet.

28 x 156.5 x 24 in.

Originating in Scotland, the joggling board was produced in Charleston in the early 19th century and grew in popularity as a front porch adornment used to replicate the feel of a carriage ride, provide light exercise or entice romance as you jostled your partner near for an intimate moment.

Old weathered surface; old but likely later paint; some tight shallow shrinkage cracks (but stable).
