Eastern Shore Virginia, circa 1900, carved and painted wood, hard wood bill splined to the back of the head, carved eyes.
Length 17.5 in.
A large curlew with carved eyes, the body being 4.5 in. thick. A similar example is displayed at the Barrier Island Museum and listed as a JH Downes curlew.
Paint worn to bare wood, bill a probable replacement, tight crack in the top of the bill mid way.
