Circa 1960s, "marble di latte" (crushed composite marble), after the original in Florence by Michelangelo Buonarroti (Italian, 1475-1564), inscribed to base "PAPINI. A", for the Papini (Agostino SNC) company in the Rignano Flaminio; together with a white painted cast iron plinth, unmarked, having ram head relief panels, canted scrolled stiles.
DOA 95 x 24 x 23 in.; sculpture 67 x 23 x 16 in.
The Estate of the late Frank Daniels, Jr. and his wife Julia Jones Daniels, Raleigh, North Carolina. A portion of the sale proceeds will be donated to the North Carolina Museum of History Foundation Some paint loss and rust spotting to cast iron plinth; some verdigris from outdoor display; a few hairlines primarily to legs (appears stable); some minor chipping and surface abrasions throughout.
