Palmetto Armory Contract Saber by William Glaze, Columbia, South Carolina
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Likely made in 1852, the 35-1/2 in. blade stamped "Columbia S.C" on the left side of the ricasso, conventional brass guard with no inspector's mark; leather-wrapped wooden grip with brass wire; lacks scabbard.

A rare antebellum sword that is considered Confederate given its usage as such during the Civil War.

Losses to leather; brass elements cleaned; no arsenal numbers or inspectors' marks; wear patterns to the Columbia stamping are consistent with those on other examples of this sword; the blade with light oxidation throughout, yet retaining a strong edge.
