The first photograph shows a bearded Meyer in uniform seated between two other officers in a camp setting. A related Library of Congress image dates this scene to 1861; two other stereoviews with Meyer in the same tent are present, but he is wearing civilian clothing.
Private North Carolina Collection A medical doctor by training, Albert Myer became the U.S. Army's first "signal officer" and ran the Signal Corps until his death in 1880.
