Louis Bosa was born in a small village just outside Venice, Italy. After studying at the Accademia della Belle Arti in Venice, he emigrated to the United States at the age of eighteen. In New York, he studied with John Sloan at the Art Students League.

Bosa's paintings often depict scenes and people from his native Italy. His subjects are often satirical and humorous, with subjects bordering on caricature.

He traveled extensively through Europe and often returned to his native Italy. Bosa painted for the Works Progress Administration and the Whitney Museum. He taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art, the New York Art Students League, the Parsons School of Design, Syracuse University, and the University of Notre Dame at South Bend, Indiana.
