Sea Gull, North Carolina, circa 1920, carved and painted wood.

Length 14.25 in.

Jim Buck was the son of Solomon Beasley. He made some classic decoys which had prominent wooden keels. This example began as a scaup which had an added cheek patch to serve as a ruddy. A rig mate is published on page 252 of Gunnin' Birds by Kroghie Andresen.

Original paint on body, cheek patch added later but very old, hit by shot.
