.58 caliber, 40 in. round barrel mounted with rear sight; a V, P and eagle head are at the breech; eagle, U.S. / SPRINGFIELD on the lockplate before the hammer and the date 1861 is behind the hammer; walnut stock with iron mounts, arsenal number "32" stamped on left side of stock with illegible inspector's cartouche behind the number; a leather sling is attached; the bayonet is also present.
