.58 caliber, 40 in. round barrel with single leaf rear sight, V/P/eagle head and 1864 date at breech; walnut stock with iron mounts and tulip head ramrod; the lockplate with an eagle over U.S. / SPRINGFIELD placed before the hammer and dated 1864 behind the hammer; inspectors' cartouche FWS (Frank W. Sanderson) and inspector's cartouche ESA (E.S. Allin) to rear of upper screw on the left side of stock; US on butt plate tang; sling swivels present.
Overall length 56 in.
Private North Carolina Collection Crisp working action; lockplate and hammer retain casehardened finish; iron elements generally bright; a few dings to stock as expected. Very good condition overall.
