Howard Finster was a self-taught artist and Baptist minister. In 1976, while repainting a bicycle, he noticed a white smudge of paint on his finger in the form of a human face. He took this smudge as a sign from God to use his art to inspire followers and spread God's message.
Howard Finster is one of the most recognized outsider artists of the 20th century. His paintings are in numerous prominent public collections including the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, Washington, DC; High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia; the American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore, Maryland; and others. He created over 46,000 works of art over the course of his life, even creating album covers for R.E.M. and Talking Heads.
Good estate condition; some minor surface marks and edge roughness as made.
