From the Personal Collection of Mr. Kroghie Andresen, Charlotte, North Carolina

Former collection of Bill Culpepper of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Bill was a member of a gunning club at the mouth of Tulls Creek. One year, their marsh had a lot of ducks across from the Swan Island Club blinds. Several of the Swan Island Club members decided to sneak over to the adjacent property and set up with a group of decoys which included this pintail. When Bill went out to hunt he caught them in the middle of their deed. They quickly got in their boats and left the decoys behind.

Some of the Swan Island Club decoys probably landed in North Carolina in 1872 when a group of sportsmen sailing from New York were beached in the Currituck Sound. These northern sportsmen were aboard the sailing yacht Anonyona which went aground near Crow Island. The Swan Island Club was soon built and became a famous hunting club for wealthy New Yorkers. William H. Forbes was a member from 1883 until his death in 1897. Wendell Endicott became a member of the club in 1901.

Old gunning paint with moderate wear, working repair to neck.
