Abraham Ortelius. PRESBITERI JOHANNIS, SIVE, ABISSINORUM IMPERII DESCRIPTIO. Antwerp, late 16th century. From Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. Copperplate engraving, hand colored, depicting Africa from the Mediterranean Sea to just south of Mozambique, with references to many myths, illustrated with mountains, elephants, and sea creatures and a ship in the surrounding waters, with a cartouche and coat of arms in the left corner discussing Prester John, and a cartouche in the lower right with the title; presented behind glass in a gilt wooden frame.

Image size 14 5/8 x 17 in.; frame dimensions 20 1/8 x 22 1/2 in.

With full margins, not laid down; (1) vertical fold crease down the center, light toning, very minor foxing and soiling; very good condition.
