Dr. Thomas Brylawski was a mathematician and professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He received a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, attended Dartmouth College for graduate work, and completed his PhD in 1970. He spent the remainder of his career at the University of North Carolina, working in matroid theory.

Throughout his life, Bryloski had an interest in art and painting. In his career, he lectured on mathematics and symmetry in art at the National Gallery and taught “Math and Art” courses at the University. He created art in his home to teach and understand mathematical theories. The art he made throughout his life combines an understanding of symmetry with an appreciation for Art History.
