Circa 1840s, watercolor and gouache on ivory, unsigned, the blue-eyed gentleman sitter purportedly John Trigg, sporting a black silk stock collar and black collar, the backing card with graphite and pen preliminary sketch of the sitter, presented within a period red leather veneered bifold case, with an ormolu mat and beveled cover glass.
Case 4 1/8 x 3 1/2 in. (case); Sight size 2 5/8 x 2 in.

Painting in good condition; some surface marks and scuffs to case, with wear and tears to silk lining; case does not close easily; loose glass.
