Circa 1815, watercolor on ivory, depicting a young officer wearing red coat with gold buttons and gold epaulettes, high collar with black stock, set within a mahogany frame with ormolu mounts, the verso with later applied paper description "Capt. Farmer, by Murphy." Interior vellum backing with ink inscriptions identifying the sitter as possibly in the "59th -Regi[ment]."
