Circa 1820s, watercolor on ivory, the blue-eyed sitter with strawberry-blond curly hair is reportedly a member of the Sterling family from the Connecticut Valley, attired in black coat, high collared shirt with cravat and jeweled pin, set against a cloud-filled ground, presented behind convex glass with eglomise mat and ebonized frame.
Frame 6 1/2 x 5 in.; painting 3 1/2 x 2 3/4 in.
Collection of a Gentleman Good estate condition; frame with some light crackle to ebonized paint, and small losses to eglomise.
