Alexander Hamilton Stephens (Georgia, 1812-1883) was a southern politician who served as Vice President of the Confederate States of America, and later as the governor of Georgia. He wrote On the Study of the Law as a pamphlet for a group of law students who studied at his home, Liberty Hall, in Crawfordville, Georgia.

J[oseph] J[ames] Darlington (1849-1920) was a lawyer in Washington, D.C. who received support from Stephens early in his career.

Light scuffing and discoloration to boards, with edgewear, spine and joints rubbed; interior toned with small area of damp staining at top edge throughout, pages with vertical crease, last leaf with 1/2-in. tear, otherwise pages clean and crisp; pamphlet bound with numerous blank pages some with small losses and repaired tears. A finely bound pamphlet in good to very good condition.
