Worked in multicolor silk thread on linen ground, New Castle, Delaware, with multicolored embroidered floral sprays and cross-stitched birds surrounding two pious verses to center, signed "Mary James's Sampler / Anno Domini 1798", framed with museum glass.

Fading, discoloration and staining to ground including moisture staining to left side, otherwise good estate condition. Examined with back panel of frame removed.
