Antique Continental Toleware Tray, Paul et Virginie

19th century, hand-painted round iron tray with dual integral handles with red and gilt foliate surround, unsigned, the scene of Paul praying before a church in Pamplemousses at the gravesite of Virginia, after Jean Frédéric Schall's series of aquatints completed circa 1790s, and inspired by the novel Paul et Virginie by Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, first published in 1788.
