Late Edo or early Meiji period, 19th century, includes two very finely decorated lacquer boxes, each with a domed lid decorated in gold, silver and brown hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, togidashi, kirikane, on a nashiji ground, the larger stationery box is decorated with a small thatch cottage under pines trees, the veranda opens up to plum blossom trees, bamboo, and maple leaves, the interior of lid is decorated with a Heian period style cart, the smaller writing box is decorated a flowing river with bordered by young pine trees, chrysanthemums, and maple trees, the interior of the lid is decorated with the same subjects, the interior base is fitted with a removable ink stone and a shaped silver water dropper, and five writing accessories in cases, each box has its own black lacquered tomobako storage box with inscription in silver, original receipt from Kawsaki Bijutsu in Kyoto accompanies this group.
