Attributed to Fredericksburg, circa 1770, red pine secondary, shaped crest rail with scratch bead, distinctive five-ribbed splat with interconnecting lobes, set within a molded shoe, slip seat, flush molded seat rails (rear and side rails appear to be walnut), straight molded front legs with inside chamfer, chamfered down-swept rear legs, flush stretcher base.

38.5 x 21 x 19.5 in., seat height 17.5 in.

Wood sample taken front slip seat frame, wood appears old but may not be original to the chair. An identification report from Alden Identification Service accompanies this lot.

Tight shrinkage cracks to back splats; tight crack and repair to left ear at stile joints to both chairs; both right legs at top with shrinkage crack; one chair with cut/patch/repair to right side stretcher; retaining several old, likely original, glue blocks; slip seats are old and appear original.
