Born in Utah, Ruth Duhring was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. She was a member of the Oakland and Richmond Art Associations, the Marin Society of Artists and the Society of Western Artists.

Ruth’s home located at 4 Greenwood Common in Berkeley, California still stands and is included in the USModernist Archives. The home was built in 1953, designed with Hervey Parke Clark and John Beuttler. Part of architect William Wurster's enclave of eight Modernist houses clustered around a common green space designed by landscape architect Lawrence Halprin.
