Annapolis, circa 1780, mahogany secondary, stamped I.M. to underside of rear seat rail of all four chairs, attributed to maker Joseph Middleton (first partner of Baltimore maker, John Shaw), shaped and relief carved crest rail, shaped stiles with beaded edge, intricate pierced back splat featuring ribbon and tassel, molded shoe, slip seat, molded flush seat rail, front rail with fluted motif, straight fluted front legs with inside chamfer, flush stretcher base, down-swept rear legs.

Some reinforcing later brace blocks; one rear leg cut/tipped; a few shrinkage splits at the top of front legs; one chair with break and repair at crest rail by stile joint; overall good condition; one chair with wood loss at corner to right front leg.
