Richard D. Bunkall was a California artist well known for his atmospheric and romanticized depictions of urban edifices. Painted in layers and through multiple re-workings, his paintings call to mind the image of Gotham and appear haunted by the presence of humans.

Bunkall studied illustration at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. From 1979 until 1999 he taught at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where his classes always had long waiting lists.

Bunkall was diagnosed with ALS in 1994. He continued to paint and teach, creatively managing the effects of this debilitating disease. Bunkall’s work has been exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the J. Cacciola Gallery in New York, Mendendall Gallery in New York and Los Angeles and many other galleries throughout the United States.

Good estate condition.
